Today, almost everyone has a mobile phone, as it is very convenient and often extremely important. And today, a smartphone performs a number of important functions and really opens up a lot of possibilities for the user. But it is worth knowing how devices have changed over the last 36 years. And since the early 2000s, no device has modernised as quickly as the mobile phone.
In general, what is the history of this device, how things have changed over time, and what is a smartphone at the moment?
The idea for the telephone first came to Alexander Bell. It happened on 10 March 1876. And 100 years later the first phrase on a mobile phone was already spoken.
Well, the first mobile phone appeared already in 1983. It was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X. At that time, the device weighed almost 1 kilogram and was 25 centimeters high. The price reached €3500.
The Finnish manufacturer offered a device with a weight of 3 kilograms and a price of €4,000.
From 2002, active development began, and the public first saw a smartphone with an OS. It was also Nokia 9210.
Since the beginning of this century, phones were already much smaller and did not weigh as much, but it was still difficult to call them compact. And for the first 5 years, manufacturers tried in every way to make the devices smaller. In 2005, a breakthrough was made, and numerous devices became the size that we are used to nowadays. The average height was 9.6 centimetres, while the weight was up to 100 grams.
And in 2007, the situation changed even more, as people started to actively use smartphones almost everywhere. It was not only making calls, but also taking photos or searching for information online, music, videos and so on. And it was not very convenient to do all this on a small screen. So the manufacturer began to upgrade.
In the same year, the market saw the first iPhone, a phone with a touch screen.
And after this, the public saw smartphones with the Android operating system. At the moment the operating system is used in almost 80% of all smartphones.
Within 2 years the first official app shops appeared for devices running different OS. In fact, this can be called an incredible leap in terms of smartphone security.
Already in 2010 a smartphone from Samsung appeared, which supported NFC contactless payment technology. In 3 years this system started to be actively used around the world.
Already in 2012 the number of smartphones with small screen became less than modern devices. And from that moment the development went almost exponentially. As for the camera, the first ones were 0.3 megapixels, and at the moment you can find 41 megapixels on the market. When it comes to mobile internet speeds, it all started at 10 kilobits per second, but today’s 5G technology makes it possible to exchange information at speeds of up to 7 Gigabytes.
In 2015, wireless charging began to be widely used, and a year later the first wireless headphones appeared.
At the moment, any smartphone can replace a computer and there are many possibilities for the user. Many models read a person’s biometric data, heart rate, blood pressure, a photo module recognises faces, and even expressions. All this makes the device personalised and unified.
