The history of the mobile app

Today’s smartphone market is booming, with numerous models that outperform the flagships that came onto the market a few years ago. And software manufacturers cannot ignore this, thus constantly updating their software. In this way, it is possible to exploit the full potential of the technology, to offer improved graphics to the consumer and to maximise performance.

Development of the first software

A mobile application is a special software which is developed for a smartphone or any mobile device, depending on the OS. And nowadays no smartphone works without additional software, or rather the owners themselves install it, as it is more functional and convenient.

In the very first programmes you can see that they were very simple and trivial. Everything was created, in most cases in Java. It was used to develop the first applications.

What else do you need to know?

The first device to see the light was the Motorola. Very quickly this model began to be called a brick, because it was a large and rather heavy phone. And to carry such a phone you needed a separate bag. The cost of the device was €4,000. But in comparison with today’s models, there is nothing to talk about. But still such phone was in demand.

How applications evolved and what was used for this

In 1993 the public saw the first application, and it was based on 16-bit EROS. This was enough to open a diary or database, individual text editors.

Other OS’s appeared in the future:

  1. Paim. This system was released in 1996. And at the time, the OS was fully compliant, even supporting touch screens. And the software was created using C and C++ language.
  2. Symbian. This variant was used for different models of devices and at the beginning of 2000 there were a lot of phones which worked with this OS. And this is why the number of applications was also huge.
  3. Android and iPhone. They now dominate. And each system has its fans. Of course, there are advantages as well as disadvantages. But all the same, there are billions of software for these operating systems today.
